Children / Teens

CHILDREN:

CHILDREN'S CREATIVE DANCE (ages 5-7):

Combines strong technical skills with a nurturing creative environment. Our classes engage the imagination; employ props, utilize storytelling and explores elementary technique.

BEGINNING KIDS TAP (ages 8-12):
This class explores the basic techniques of tap and challenges the student with combinations and challenging rhythm progressions

INTERMEDIATE KIDS/TEEN TAP (ages 8-12):
This class continues to explore techniques of tap and challenges the student by incorporating the class with a fusion of hip hop and jazz influences.

MUSIC TOGETHER (ages 0-5) :
Music Together classes are based on the recognition that all children are musical.  This is a research based early childhood music program for infants to kindergarten (ages 0-5) that strongly emphasizes and facilitates parent/caregiver participation regardless of their own musical abilities. Classes meet once a week for 45 minutes. During class we sing, play instruments, play with rhythm and tonal patterns, and do creative movement activities in a developmentally appropriate, non-performance oriented, fun environment.  Class sessions are usually ten weeks long and a new song collection is introduced every semester. Music Together is committed to helping families enjoy and acknowledge the value of informal music experiences both in class and at home.
 
BEGINNING JAZZ HIP HOP (ages 8-12):
This beginner program allows students to take the 2 most popular forms of dance in one class. The jazz/hip hop class teaches fundamental jazz steps and combines the elements of hip hop moves and contemporary music.

MOMMY & ME BALLET (ages 2-4):
Parents exercise along with the child in order to encourage the child in the correct movements and to help maintain discipline. The class includes stretching and body awareness exercises; traveling steps are practiced while holding the hand of the parent and/or instructor. The last segment of the class is devoted to creative activities. This class meets once a week for 30 minutes.

HIP-HOP DANCE (ALL AGES):

This exciting and fun class explores phrasing and movement in the hip hop vocabulary.  Be prepared to have fun and to sweat!

ADVANCED JAZZ DANCE (ages 12-18):
This class explores modern and retro music to develop phrasing, unison and gymnastic skills.

BEGINNING JAZZ (ages 8-12):
This beginner program teaches fundamental jazz steps and sets the foundation for jazz technique

BEGINNING BALLET (ages 8-12):
Traditional ballet class focusing on bar technique, center exercises, petite allegro, adagio and grand allegro.

BFA KIDS (6-17 years old):

Learn the basic ballet folklorico rhythms, styles and steps from some of the 32 different regions of Mexico and its rich cultural history.  Specific "zapateados" and choreography for dances geared for the students skill level will be taught and presented at the session recital.  Educational math and science concepts combined with concepts of respect for others on the dance floor, are shared through gross motor skill development empowering each child to gain self confidence and self esteem.

 

Teen/ Adults

 

MODERN TECHNIQUE:
Drawing from a modern lyrical technique, this class explores percussion, lyricism, suspension, and athleticism by using live and recorded music.

BEGINNING/ INT. ADULT TAP:
Sophisticated rhythms are explored in this challenging but casually fun class.

SALSA DANCE:
This dynamic and fun class will teach students the fundamentals of Salsa, allowing them to partner, turn and execute basic floor patterns in the Latin Style.

BFA KIDS (6-17 years old):

LINDY HOP-SWING
The original street dance of the Jazz era stem from what is known as the Lindy Hop, the precursor to the modern street dance Hip-Hop.  With a mixture of African and European influences, this authentic American Dance has survived throughout the decades.  You will learn the basic eight count swing-out, along with moderate moves that contain various triple step sequences.  You will become familiar with and understand how to move your body to "Swing" music.  All levels welcome, no previous experience needed.  Please wear comfortable shoes.

ZUMBA :
is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

Adults

LADIES BURLESQUE JAZZ DANCE :
This class explores classic jazz music to develop phrasing as well as burlesque and classic jazz dance techniques..

LINDY HOP-SWING

This fun, beginning class uses ballet technique as a basis to stay lean and fit. Contemporary and classical music are used throughout the class, focusing on the  fitness aspect of ballet versus the technical. Class begins with barre, moving to the center and ending with jumps and turns.

BEGINNING/ INT. ADULT TAP:
Sophisticated rhythms are explored in this challenging but casually fun class.


SALSA DANCE:

This dynamic and fun class will teach students the fundamentals of Salsa, allowing them to partner, turn and execute basic floor patterns in the Latin Style.


TANGO DANCE:

Tango is a passionate dance for anyone with an innate sense of rhythm and a desire to learn.  A partner is recommended but not necessary.
 

BELLY DANCE:
Get a great workout while learning the ancient art of Belly Dance! Belly dancing is a powerful form of artistic expression. It strengthens bonds between community and expresses joy,
pleasure and praises life. Belly Dance has tremendous, continuous impact in the quality of relaxation, breathing & rhythm, which increases body awareness & sensitivity & contributes to a heightened sense of well-being & self-esteem .

BALLROOM DANCE:
Come and learn the basics of ballroom. In this fun and instructive course, you will learn the foxtrot, the rhumba, the cha-cha and many other classic ballroom classes.

Fitness

CORE YOGA:
Is an active class for beginner and intermediate students.  You will learn proper alignment for poses and develop an increased awareness of the breath.

ALL LEVELS YOGA:
Vinyasa Yoga is like a dance, and the rhythm is breath connected to movement. It is based in the Ashtanga method, using deep breathing (Ujjayi) to calm the mind and generate heat in the body, which allows the muscles to stretch and open. It is a great class to gain awareness, strength, and flexibility. Please wear comfortable lightweight clothing and bring a towel since you are like to get a little sweaty.

GENTLE YOGA: Gentle Yoga is a restorative, slow-paced yoga class.  The use of props, such as blankets and blocks, help students focus on form while maintaining ease with their practice. This is a great class for beginners, seniors and those wishing to deepen their yoga practice in a very gentle environment.

ACTIVE YOGA:
Peaceful, serene, strong, relaxed, pure -- this is how you will feel after participating in this ancient method known as Vinyasa Yoga, which is based around the idea of "flow" and connected movements. A well-rounded class utilizing focused breathing throughout the postures. This class will facilitate a greater range of motion, strength and flexibility. Teacher will offer modifications.

VINYASA FLOW YOGA
Now is the time to connect the body, mind and spirit in a warm, inspiring enviroment.  A Vinyasa style class promoting mind-body awareness through the practice of asanas (postures), pranayama (focused breathing) and savasana (deep relaxation). Teacher will offer modifications

PILATES FLOOR MAT:
Focuses on the concepts taught by Joseph Pilates by using the floor and gravity to create resistance in the core of the body. This is an excellent class for athletes, dancers and for people who want to use their bodies more efficiently.

ZUMBA :
is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! NIA:
Nia is a fusion fitness practice based on a variety of movement forms. With the chemistry of the dance arts, martial arts, and healing arts, Nia delivers fitness through putting strength, endurance, and flexibility into one complete sensory package. Nia is holistic: it addresses not just the body, but the entire being. Nia uses imagery to inspire movement and to heal the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. All Nia classes are open to all levels. Nia instructors guide those new to Nia on how to perform Nia's easy-to-learn movements in "real-time." No previous experience, dance or otherwise, is required to take a Nia class.
